Dry Stone Walling Workshop 2026
July 20-23rd
Downtown Oaks Park, Forestville, CA
Join a four-day workshop to learn the fundamentals of building a structurally sound dry stone wall from the ground up. Learn principles of wall construction, as well as site and materials preparation. We will be building a seat-wall at the Downtown Oaks Park in Forestville, CA.
The craft of dry stone walling has been practiced for centuries to build structures around the world. A dry stone wall is built without the use of mortar and instead employs a set of construction principles that provide the structural integrity needed for a long-lasting wall. Not only is a properly built dry stone wall structurally sound, it is also an art form that brings beauty into a landscape unlike any other form of construction.
So you want to start learning how to build dry stone walls. Or you’ve taught yourself a bit and want to check your understanding with professional guidance. Maybe you plan to build walls at home or maybe you want to educate yourself before hiring someone else to build a wall. Perhaps you are considering entering the trade or adding dry stonework to the portfolio of services you already provide as a landscape or hardscape contractor. Whatever your motivation and experience, this introductory workshop is a starting point for you.
Come to the heart of the Russian River Valley and learn from certified waller-instructors to construct a freestanding double-faced seat-wall. You will build with stone from a local quarry and engage in hands-on experience with the five basic rules of structural dry stone walling. You will go home with a basic understanding of how to apply age-old principles of dry stone construction to any type of stone and project.
Cost: $1600
Price of the workshop covers instructor costs, stone, and tools. One scholarship may be available to an active student at the SRJC, please inquire at christa@christamone.com.
